We’ve bought a sweet little adventure mobile. Her name is Roamy.
After six months of researching and shopping for vans, we bought Roamy in February. She’s not only going to be our ticket to adventure but we’ve made her available to hire via the peer-to-peer rental site Camplify.
If you think you might be keen to take her on a road trip sometime (or if you know anyone else who might), read on for all the details…
Roamy is a 2008 automatic, turbo-diesel Hyundai iLoad, converted for adventure by her previous owners.
We’ll be making some modifications to her in a few months to better suit our little family but for now, she seats 3 people and sleeps 2. We can hire you a simple popup tent if you want to bring a third person along.
Her comfy interior converts from a lounging space with a table into a bed quickly and easily. You’ve seen the bed setup above, but below is a photo of the lounge and table setup. This one was taken by the previous owners before we added our personal touches (hope they don’t mind me using it but we haven’t taken many of our own yet – Sorry Bronwyn if you’re reading).

Roamy’s other features include:
- Located on the north side of Melbourne, only about 12 km from the airport (Airport pickup available at extra cost and subject to availability).
- Tinted windows will help keep the camper cool and they make your space super private.
- She’s not too big to park. It takes a bit of getting used to but as long as you’re careful, shopping centre carparks are workable.
- Amazing sound system with Bluetooth connectivity (for use when driving only – a UE Boom Bluetooth speaker is also available to hire for use while camping).
- Camping chairs and table, and all the other necessary bits and pieces.
So we’ve looked at a few different ways of doing this and decided, at least for now, that we’ll start the price at $100 per night (before Camplify’s fees) during off-peak times, with a basic setup that provides everything you need for a fun and adventure-filled couples road trip. We’re assuming you’re mainly using the van to sleep and drive in (ie. you’ll be eating out).
This way we keep the price down and can provide extra bits and pieces for a small extra cost. Here’s what we’re offering as extras:
- Airport pickup (subject to availability) – $35
- Gazebo – $35
- Pop-up tent for extra person (we recommend erecting the pop-up tent under the gazebo because it doesn’t include a rain fly) – $5
- 2-Burner LPG stove, including pots and pans, and all necessary utensils. – $5
- Esky (cooler) – $5
- Early pick up and/or late dropoff (standard pick up is after 3pm and dropoff is by 11am) – $40
- Bespoke itinerary for your trip (either with or without activity and campground booking) – $20 per day
- Borrow or buy my book, Best Walks of the Great Ocean Road – $5 to borrow / $20 to buy
- Tablet for movie watching (in case you don’t have one of your own). – $20
- UE BOOM 2 Bluetooth speaker – $20
- Cleaning: We expect Roamy to be returned exactly as you found her but understand that this might not be practical for everyone. For an extra fee, we’ll be happy to do the cleaning for you. – $60
How does that sound? Serious question. This is all new to us so we’re keen to hear what potential customers think. Scroll down and comment or e-mail us via the Contact page to tell us what for.

Roamy gives you (and us) so much potential for incredible Victorian road trip adventures. With this gorgeous camper as a home base, you’ll get the best of our state’s nature with a bit of style and luxury.
The Great Ocean Road is always my number one road trip recommendation for visitors to Victoria but there are so many other options. You could explore Gippsland, Wilsons Promontory, Phillip Island, Victoria’s Alpine Region and the north-east, or the stunning Grampians region.
We took Roamy for our first adventure over the Easter weekend and decided to explore north-west Victoria, so I’ll be filling you in on all the best bits of that soon. It was exactly the kind of adventure we were dreaming of when we bought her.
Want to take Roamy on your very own adventure?
